Bob Welham has a keen interest in photography and he certainly put my computer system under strain in attempting to display his work.  Sadly, I now know the limitations of my system.  Especially noticeable, is the dark area with green tinge in the Ammonite Boulder.  The original transparency, (and these are larger than 35mm format having been taken with a Hasselblad) shows pebbles in this dark background.  Either my Scanner or the Scanner Software cannot differentiate and resolve detail over wide contrast ranges.  At best the system is a compromise and scanning transparencies seems to be a design feature added as an after thought.  My apology to Bob as I can't duplicate the exquisite detail of the originals and also my thanks for what I have learned.  Both digital and traditional photograph have their place or as I saw advertised in a shop window (devoted to Super 8 Cinefilm) it said, "would you rather trust your photographs recorded on RUST or SILVER?"

Anyone else want to supply a few pictures of field trips etc? Please! (RC 30/12/01)
