Trace Fossils from a Friend's Patio The pictures below were first displayed at our member's evening in August. Ron was seeking information as to what may have caused the patterns that cross at right angles to the ripple markings. (The most usual comment for the top left image is "Tyre Tread!"). It is unusual enough to find slabs with preserved ripple marks, the addition of other patterns is a rare lucky find. Perhaps the most significant clue is their orientation to the ripples? If the pattern in the top left picture 'rings any bells' with you, please drop me an e-mail in the first instance (serious replies please) Roger Coleman Click on images below for a bigger picture!

Please note: In the notes for August's meeting you will find a LINK for information about TRACE FOSSILS. Possibly, a good starting point as an introduction to the subject. All pictures © Ron Frost, Essex Rock & Mineral Society 2002 (RC 28 September 2002) |
