A trip to Canada
(by Stuart Adams)

During the summer of '03 I had the good fortune to visit a long standing friend in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The step-father of my friend is a keen "rock hound" and his (Glen) workshop was a treat to see. The shelves were littered with specimens both polished and rough, and around the outside of the shed was more rough material. You almost wondered that if all this was cut and polished would the shed stay up!

As an engineer building rock cutting equipment posed no real problem for Glen and he delighted in showing just how efficiently it all worked. In the basement of his house were display cabinetts of superbly polished minerals with more boxes and bits of rock tucked underneath.  A real Aladin's cave and each piece with a tale to tell - what more could an Essex Rock & Mineral member ask for?

Thank you Glen for your hospitality and it was a pleasure to share your enthusiasm.

(Wow, those braces deserve a matching belt as any good engineer knows! RC.)
