Permian "Marl Slate" exposures at Thrislington (circa 1991)

The Marl Slate is the broad dark bedding plane across the centre of the picture above. The slope beneath this facies was the path descending into the quarry as seen in the previous picture.

This view is a close look at the Marl Slate. The dark grey area (3) indicates a fresh surface all other surfaces are weathered.

These pictures were taken 10 years ago. Members who went on the club trip in September this year, had a rock pile to sort through instead of in situ formations. I think they were lucky. None of these rock faces pictured seemed stable. Far too dangerous to work close in! It's not worth the risk! When on site, the size of the talus at the base of the section should be warning enough!
